Despite some severe backfuckitis, once I started moving, my mobility picked up and it allowed me to climb a couple of mountains.

The first Via there is not much walking and most of the distance is on the ladders.

My second Via was to Rifugio Monzino, roughly a vertical KM of distance, a lot of ladders but a lot of slogging up and of course down. This is an out and back course.

While the Via Casimiro has perfectly placed steps everywhere, the path to Rifugio Monzino is a bit more work and one needs to find foot holds and handholds in spots.

The weather remained perfect. 7 hours round trip, and I did not see another human. Glorious.

The Rifugio is closed for season and there was a bit of snow from a snowfall the week previous but the weather was perfect as were the conditions.

The only difficulty aside from the tricky path itself, is that the bridge that typically crosses the glacial river was missing. It made for a treacherous crossing both ways. More so on the way back due to fatigue and not finding as good a spot to cross.

No trip to visit Diego would be complete without food and wine and other various alcoholic beverages.

I am not a fan of grappa but I tried them all. Rum too.

Being a fussy eater I have declared that while I will not eat a lot of things, I will drink anything once.

The aftermath of dinner at L’Armadillo in Courmayeur

L’Armadillo Vino Vivo Link on Google Maps was new to me and delicious. Small bites, delicious, a great cozy ambiance and great wine.

I can’t remember what this dessert was but it was delicious.
