September 6 we started our day in San Pellegrino at Hotel Costabella.

The weather forecast had promised rain and it delivered. A temperature of +3 Celsius and driving rain made for an ominous start.

Our motto, “Lets give it a shot, no matter what” led us to the cable car about 400m from Hotel Costabella.

No lineup! No visiblity, no problem!

Upon reaching the top of the cable car, there was construction and we spent about 15 minutes finding the proper path. Visibility was maybe 10m or so. In that 15 minutes we were already wet from the driving rain.

We hit the trail and in 20 minutes determined that it was not worth it.

We descended the cable car, returned briefly to Hotel Costabella and plotted our plan B route via Moena to San Martino di Castrozza.

It must be said, that while the buses are not always frequent, transit by bus to just about anywhere seems possible in Italy.

In the end, another day of disappointment due to the weather.

The day was rescued by transit and moving to a next logical stop where we would be able to catch another cable car to join the Alta Via 2 at Rifugio Rosetta from the town of San Martino di Castrozza.

This was supposed to be our day:

Below was our actual path taken…
