Day 5. Our first diversion.
The original plan
Today, we decided to take the day “off” .
We started the morning from the Hotel Dolomites Inn, a great breakfast, with only a few other guests in the hotel.
Had a good sleep, our laundry dry after washing the night before. A southern exposure on our balcony helping greatly.
We took a bus to the nearby Lago di Fedaia and had lunch at Rifugio Castiglioni; where most Alta Via 2 people would stay. Excellent food, and more hotel like than previous rifugios we had encountered, most likely due to the easy roadside access.
Of note, it had a nice large drying room!
After lunch we took the bus to Moena and then a second bus on to San Pellegrino, where we had booked in to the Hotel Costabella.
Hotel Costabella was gorgeous; great food, excellent host and easy to recommend this to anyone at anytime.
We were within a couple hundred metres of a cable car that would ascend us to the trail the next morning.
The weather however was not looking good for Day 6.

Hotel Costabella. About a 400m walk to the Cable Car, which would save some time and trail. About 200 Euros for the night, including an amazing gourmet dinner, superb breakfast buffet and wine. And an excellent night sleep. https://www.costabella.it/en/
