The plan for the day

We started the day knowing we were going to descend on the cable car (Funivia Pass Pordoi) and end the day a bit off trail but at the Hotel Dolomites in Penia.

Right out the door, we pass the lake and go up the side; there is a cable aided section that has zero technical difficulties that takes you up over the lip of the valley.

From there the scenery is otherworldly and impressive, moon like, amazing.

Up and out of sight of the lake

Our moving time today was 2:52 but as usual we took a lot of photos.

We stopped for drinks at Rifugio Boe (under construction but had beer on tap) and pit toilets.

Once past Rifugio Boe, there were crowds of people out for day hikes via the Cable Car.

Going against the crowd arriving from the Cable Car

At the bottom of the Cable Car there are a few food options, we had pizza while we waited for the hourly bus that would get us to Penia; which was a bit off the track but felt in the planning stage that if there was a hotel option it would be a good reset. And yes, it was.

Looking back up to where we came from

The Hotel Dolomites Inn is a bit out of the town but was worth it. We were able to wash clothes, dry them on a sunny balcony; have a room to ourselves and enjoy an amazing dinner in the hotel restaurant and an exceptional brekky the following morning.

Easy to recommend this option as it does provide a nice reset and respite from Hut Life.

Cost for both of us; dinner/room/brekky, 174 Euros.

Our best moment today was getting clean at the hotel! Worst moment were the pit toilets (Kristin)
