The Ontario Open was to be the beginning of three tournaments in three weekends. To get some stronger competition I played in the “A” event rather than my age group.

This was also the first weekend with Kristin in a while and we had two great dinners planned, Richmond Station and Don Alphonso 1860.

The Squash

First match was brutal, but got through it. Second match I was a bit sharper. Semi final I dropped a game and got pissed at a spectator which very quietly motivated me. From 1-4 down rolled to win 11-4 and on to a decisive four game victory.

The final was workmanlike, a decent 3-0 for my second Ontario A championship, first in quite a few years.

This was my 27th title at the Provincial level.

The food

Richmond Station has a small entrance just off of Yonge St on Richmond St West, downtown Toronto. https://richmondstation.ca/

Food, ambiance, delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area.

Don Alphonso 1890

Don Alphonso 1890 recently gained a Michelin Star and has previously been described as the best Italian Restaurant in the world outside of Italy.

It was, without question, the best meal either I or Kristin have ever had. Service was impeccable, food was immaculate, the experience is costly and yet it was perfect and without regret.

We did make a reservation a couple months in advance. Book early!

In the end, an amazing weekend with great food and a tournament win.

Off to Philadelphia for US nationals.
