It had been close to 25 years since I had been to Vancouver Island. A trip to Jamaica was postponed due to the pandemic, restricting us to travel within Canada only.

So off we went. A couple days in Victoria, a few days south of Comox and then a few days in Tofino.

Starting in Victoria we spent the early part of the day in a hot tub boat in Victoria harbour!

Yes, Hot tub boats in Victoria harbor – with charcuterie and wine!

From Victoria we went north and stayed at the Kingfisher Resort in Courtenay. It was wonderful. Superb food on site, a great room on the water and their Pacific Mist Hydropath was definitely worth it.

The room provided us almost a full kitchen, a fire place and steps from the water, with a view across to the snow capped mountains of the mainland.

There is no doubt that I would recommend the Kingfisher both to stay and to eat.

From here we did a couple of day trips/hikes.

After Courtenay we headed across the Island to Tofino, a rugged yet gorgeous stretch of road.

There were a couple things I was quite looking forward to, the gallery of Roy Henry Vickers being one of them.

With volatile weather we were able to book a kayak tour last minute, around various bouts of rain and windy weather.

We did bring proper wet weather clothes and did some hiking in the rain in the National park. All the trails are worth doing.

When we weren’t hiking and paddling, we were looking for good food and there is no shortage of that in Tofino.

Of note, Tacofino. Delicious, try a Gringa.

For our last night in Tofino, Kristin booked us into a Geodesic dome place on the Tofino shoreline downtown.

It was amazing. We could only get one night but it was enough to launch our lives in a mildly different direction! More of that in a later post.

The dome was amazing. Walking distance to everything, exceptionally cozy. It made leaving Tofino rather difficult but leave we did to spend the last two nights of our trip south of Nanaimo, for another couple of day trips before we returned to Victoria to head home.

Our last couple of days were spent doing some walking at the Kinsol Trestle. Very cool. Our last full day we stayed in bed for a longer period than normal watching the chaos of the US Election (Biden vs Trump). We were on a plane to Arizona the previous election (the one Trump won). Fuck is Trump ever an asshole of a human being! Just saying.
