Moab was a new place for us; famous for it’s mountain biking, especially the slick rock.
We are cautious mountain bikers, seeking out flowy, fast desert stuff, with no crazy technical challenges. We don’t mind short rocky sections; but in the end, flow rules.
Our bikes are hard tails, with great front suspension and our short forays onto slick rock were bumpy. Something to perhaps try again with a full suspension bike.
Our first ride was actually the day before at Dead Horse Point, Klondike Bluffs is about a fifteen minute drive north of Moab.
Before we even started however, we needed some bike repairs done. I had warped rotors and while trying to avoid a repair and adjust my brakes, bled the hydraulic fluid from them. From noisy rotor to no brake at all. Kristin had a slow leak and also a noisy rotor
Leads me to a recommendation… The Double Down Bike Shop in Moab, they took care of us quickly and efficiently, did a couple extra things that were necessary that they noticed that I didn’t. Very helpful.
Klondike Bluffs provided a very decent out and back route, with several options there and back; different levels too if you wanted to upgrade your challenge.
While did not go to Arches National Park there is one of the larger arches on the planet just outside the park – Corona Arch
A short drive along the Colorado River takes you to the trail head. It is probably a forty minute hike from there.
We would have had more photos but we were traveling without headlamps and it was getting dark, fast. So our pics are from afar as we had to turn back!
A couple food options for Moab…
The Blu Pig had pretty good barbecue; Thai Bella was superb. Not always a huge Thai food fan, but Thai Bella is worth a trip.
