This was my fourth World Masters Squash Championships and my first in quite some time.
It was also the first major tournament international tournament in several years; post shoulder surgery.
Had a good draw, surely benefitting from my upset of Willie Hosey at Canadian Nationals, seeded third ahead of Steve Wren.
Had a solid bunch of wins, including a former training partner from my summers in England in the late 80’s. He was never particularly nice to me and it was a satisfying win that put me into the Semi Finals.
The University of Virginia has a beautiful facility, joined with Boars Head a historical resort.
First class courts. Mediocre change rooms!
In the end, got crushed by Hansi Wiens in the Semi Final.
While a beautiful facility, the show court in which I had 4 matches; was incredibly difficult to play on due to the lighting and lack of contrast in the glass.
I had a terrible time; never improved on that and many players had issues with the optics. Made for a frustrating semi final.
